2019 Senior Newsletter
GraduationIt will soon be time for Park Hill South to graduate the class of 2019.  We have prepared this mailing as a means of
informing you of the many events planned for our graduates during this exciting time.

Graduation Announcement delivery day

Graduation Announcements will be delivered on March 14th  during lunch periods.  If you owe a balance you can pay with a debit or credit card online here or in person with cash or check.

Cap and Gown delivery day

Cap and Gowns will be delivered to seniors on April 11th during lunch and April 19th from 7:00 a.m.–7:30 a.m. in the commons.  It is recommended to try on the cap and gown to avoid any last minute problems with the fit. If you have not ordered your cap and gown, please contact Jostens at 
816-523-4900.  You will need to know the student’s height and weight when placing the order.

Senior Awards Night
Senior Awards will be presented on Wednesday, May 8th at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.  We will celebrate each senior and the scholarships they have been awarded. In addition, we recognize other academic achievements such as, Top 10%, Departmental Awards, AVID, Military Enlistments, National Merit and SO MUCH MORE!
In order for us to recognize seniors, students and/or parents must provide any scholarship information on the following Google Form by April 25th Google Form. The Form can be accessed multiple times. If scholarship information has not be shared by the student or parent, there will be no recognition on Senior Awards Night. If you have questions, please contact your student’s counselor.

There are still a number of scholarships available to seniors. Scholarships continue to be updated on the Scholarship Bulletin. All seniors are encouraged to apply for scholarships. The Scholarship Bulletin can be accessed on the Park Hill South Counseling Website Scholarship bulletin

Yearbook distribution and signing
Yearbook distribution and signing will be Wednesday, May 1st. Seniors will be released to the gym on a modified schedule.

Senior Picnic
Senior picnic will be on May 16th. It will be a fun day for seniors to hang out, play kickball and enjoy the company of their classmates with pizza, soda and desserts from 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. at English Landing Park, Parkville, MO.  Pizza provided by Stone Canyon.  Please log on to Signup genius  to help out by donating drinks, desserts and side snacks.

Baccalaureate hosted by FCA
A Baccalaureate Program will be held on April 30th at 7:00 p.m. in the Park Hill South auditorium.  Although participation is optional, all seniors and parents are invited to attend this inspirational program dressed in their cap and gown and proper attire. No jeans, tennis shoes or flip flops. No one will be allowed to participate without a cap and gown.

Senior’s Last Day and Rehearsal – May 15th
Release at 10:30 a.m. for rehearsal
• Graduation rehearsal will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the main gym. All graduates are required to attend rehearsal.
• Mid-year graduates need to be at Park Hill South before 10:15 a.m. for rehearsal. Students will not need to have their cap and gown for rehearsal.
• Senior laptop check-in will follow rehearsal in the gym.
• Senior slide show followed by senior bell ringing.
• Seniors will complete their day around 12:30 p.m.

Community of Christ

•Tickets or reservations are not required. You may invite as many family members and friends as you would like. Graduating seniors will need to be at Community of Christ on Sunday, May 19th by 11:45 a.m. in cap and gown. Don’t forget your tassel. Graduates will be lined up and recognized in alphabetical order.
•Cap and Gown will be worn as issued and not disfigured in any way. No tape, signs, armbands, rhinestones, etc. Noise-makers or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
•The doors at Community of Christ will open to family and friends at 12:00 p.m.  Carpooling is recommended. There
are special seating areas available for handicapped visitors located inside the east and west side doors. They are available on first come, first serve basis.
•Males should wear dress shirts, dress slacks, and dress shoes. Females should wear dresses or dress slacks, and dress shoes. No jeans, tennis shoes or flip flops. Students will not be allowed to walk with cameras, purses or 
cell phones.  Please make arrangements for someone to hold these items for you during the ceremony.
•Graduates will receive their diploma after the ceremony in the auditorium basement lobby if all fines have been paid and all discipline obligations are complete. You will receive notification prior to graduation of any fines or discipline obligations that need to be resolved.  If for some reason you will not be able to participate in the commencement ceremony, please contact Tammy Becker at 816-359-6755 or email Beckerta@parkhill.k12.mo.us at your earliest convenience.

•Student Council will be selling reserved priority seating for $20.00 per person beginning April 1st. The sections are
located on either side of the graduates and will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.

or delivered to the school. Requests and payment are due no later than May 10th. Recipients will be notified the week prior to graduation of specific seat and row assignments.

Graduation Pictures
•Pictures of each graduate receiving their diploma will be taken by Reed Portrait Group. You will receive an email from Reed Portrait Group a couple weeks after graduation with instructions for purchasing the photos.  Call Reed Portrait Group with any questions 816-436-5550.

Graduation DVD
•The Park Hill communications team will be recording the Park Hill South High School graduation ceremony.  DVD orders will be available to purchase at senior awards night and at the graduation ceremony for $25.00 and can be paid with cash/check or added to your Infinite Campus fee account. If you have additional questions or to place
an order, email or call Cindy Small at smallc@parkhill.k12.mo.us or 816-359-4000.
The Senior Class is offering the opportunity for you to purchase a potted plant used as decoration at the venue for
graduation. You can take home a memorable keepsake of your child’s graduation ceremony for $28.00.  We are also extending the opportunity for you to dedicate your plant in the name of a graduating senior, a family member or person absent from the ceremony. This is at no additional cost, and your dedications will be listed on the large screen prior to the graduation service. Plant pick-up will start immediately after graduates leave the auditorium (please bring proper identification) and end 15 minutes after the graduation ceremony. The venue will not allow any items left behind, and the plants will not be transported back to PHS. Any plant left after the ceremony will be disposed of. Every purchase made will be put in a drawing to win the large floral arrangement displayed at graduation. The winner of this arrangement will be notified prior to the ceremony. If interested, please complete the attached form and attach a check made payable to PHS by April 25th.
