COUNSELING NEWS - Summer Enrichment Program
SENIORS: University of Kansas Medical Center Pre-Med Summer Programs – The Health Sciences Enrichment Institute Level 1 (HSEI-1) is a six-week summer program on the KU Med Center campus designed for incoming college freshmen, that teaches diagnostic testing, offers instruction in biology, anatomy, microbiology and intro to research and medicine. Requirements include a minimum of 2.5 G.P.A. and an interest in medicine as a career. The student must be from a disadvantaged background and/or be a member of a population that is under-represented or underserved in the health field. COUNSELING NEWS - Scholarship
The 2017 Virjean Burton Youth Philanthropy Awards– This award recognizes ONE young Northlander who has demonstrated a combination of philanthropic leadership and action. The recipient of this award has the opportunity to select a Northland nonprofit organization that will receive a $1,000 grant. In addition, the recipient receives a $2,000 scholarship to the post-secondary institution of his/her choice. See Mrs. Sharp in the Counseling Office

COUNSELING NEWS - Mizzou Leadership Academy
The Trulake Leaders Academy is for current seniors who are interested in business and leadership. The Academy will be held Friday, April 14th on Mizzou’s campus from 9am to 2:30pm. The cost for the event is $25. Applicants must apply online no later than March 22nd. You can apply online at http://www.trulaskeleadership.com. Contact Mrs. Sharp in the PHS Counseling Center for more information.

DECA State Qualifiers
PHS DECA recently sent three state qualifiers, Harrison Ramsden, Brett Currey and Robert Showers, to the DECA State Leadership Conference competitions in the Lake of the Ozarks.  Finishing 3rd at State in the Business Finance category was Brett Currey.  This qualifies Brett to go to DECA Internationals held in Anaheim, California where he will compete against other DECA members from the 50 States and 10 other countries.  Congratulations and Good Luck!

PAINT DANCE
Paintstorm, Stuco's first casual paint dance will be held on Friday, March 31 from 8 - 11 pm.  Tickets will be sold at lunch March 27-31 for $10 per person.  The dance will be held outside in the front circle drive.  Please wear clothes that can get a little messy!

DEBATE NEWS
Please congratulate senior Sarah Komar on qualifying to attend the NSDA National Tournament in Oratory! Nationals will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, in June. The final NSDA qualifier will be on Tuesday, April 4, in Congress competition at William Jewell.

Attention PHS Seniors: On Tuesday, April 25th at 6:30pm we will honor the Class of 2017 and the awards you have received to help fund your post-secondary education. This is a special event which highlights the hard work and dedication you have given throughout high school. In order to find out about the awards you have been given, we have created a Google Form for you to access to provide us this information. If you have been given an award from an institution, but you are not sure you are going to use it, please still enter this information. Students have until April 1st to provide this informaiton. If you do not provide the information, we WILL NOT be aware of your achievements and therefore you will not be recognized. (Please do not include loans or grants.) Summer Opportunities: North Kansas City Hospital Summer Youth Volunteers - NKC Hospital is now accepting applications for its Summer Youth Volunteer Program.  Students ages 14-18 who are interested in volunteering with the hospital should submit an online application by Friday, April 28. Volunteer opportunities are available in Cardiac Rehab, Central Services, Children’s Learning Center, Emergency Department, Nursing Units, Print Shop, Pharmacy and other areas.
